KICKSTARTER: HELP RAISE MONEY FOR ‘PUBLIC LAW 89-732′!

Help up and coming filmmakers Justin Polk and Sean Fine tell a story of Cuban immigration in America. The story, and public law 89-732, may be something you are not familiar with. Both deal with immigration and how a refugee, namely a Cuban refugee, is allowed to enter upon US soil.

The Synopsis:

“PUBLIC LAW 89-732″

Feet frantically running, burst of fire from gun barrels, a raft being thrown into the water, and hands on a fence with a woman screaming!

That is how the film begins. It’s the story of three friends having to leave Cuba for various reasons, mostly to start a new life. The three characters Erubiel (the baseball player, promised a spot in the Major Leagues in America), Ariel (Erubiel’s girlfriend), and Miguel (the revolutionary who must leave Cuba) meet with Diego, the smuggler, who after an tense conversation sets them up with a boat to get them to America. But just getting to the boat is difficult. To get to the boat they must scale a wired fence at the beach while dodging bullets from the military protecting the border.
Once at sea, and with one passenger seriously wounded, they have no clue if they are headed in the right direction. After being lost for 3 days, and almost losing faith and giving in to death, they see land. But getting to that land is just as difficult as leaving Cuba. From there its a frantic race to reach dry land before the coast guard gets to them first.

PLANS:

The plan for the film is to submit it to the Festival de Cannes ( or Cannes Film Festival) this upcoming year, where there is opportunity to win prizes and many more opportunities to advance the film. After debuting at Cannes, the next step would be to enter the film into other festivals.

WHAT WE’RE DOING:

With the right amount of financing this film could be EPIC and go on to do many things for the people involved. The cost of the film roughly would be around $10,000 on the lower side. Obviously we want to maximize this opportunity and come out with the best film possible, so $10,000 or more is what we’re seeking.
