Let’s save another independent TV series! Three years ago, Dana Gills, Asha Kamali May & Jeanette McDuffie got together to create milk + honey because they wanted to work and wanted to see themselves and their friends reflected on screen. The Brown Paper Dolls, the team behind the wildly popular ‘milk + honey’ videos, are using their collective resources to finish season one. The amazing people who shared their time and talent with the ‘Dolls’ are Debbie Allen, Lance Gross, Bryce Wilson, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Yaani King, Faune Chambers, Charles Divins, Shauntay Hinton, Rob Smith and the list goes on and on.

The Project

Dreams. This is a story about them.

milk + honey is a dramedy series created for the web that can live within all multi-media channels.  It focuses on the spiritual, professional and romantic journeys of four young, ambitious African- American women navigating through the lights, smoke and mirrors of Hollywood.

Audiences will bond with the women as they experience the joy and pain unique to their paths toward the promised land. Nia, an aspiring actress on a quest to climb the Hollywood social ladder, tries to remain faithful through it all.  Harper, the classic Black American Princess, shakes things up in the agency world.  Samirah, an Ivy league educated free spirit and DJ, wants nothing to do with the life.  Conversely, Farrah, a socialite wild child siren and heiress, is constantly looking for love and acceptance on the scene.  The fifth character is the Los Angeles landscape–its culture, music and fashion.

We live in a time where people are creating their own paths. We have more options that we ever have had before. This is a show about that.  We hope people will see themselves in these characters or live vicariously through them.

The places we have been featured include essence.com, huffingtonpost.com, theybf.com, blackenterprise.com, Uptown Magazine, clutchmagonline.com, parlourmagazine.com, Fearless magazine and the Chicago Tribune’s RedEye.

The Impact

Many players in Hollywood are uninterested in the business of people of color. It is often said that non-white faces don’t make money or garner enough interest from global audiences. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Our dream for the world is that one day people will consume media based on the strength of the story and talent of the cast, even if the people onscreen have a different skin color. Our mission is to create projects that are well told and entertaining.
